CHAPEL HILL, N.C., Feb. 2, 2018 – The Medical Affairs function in the pharmaceutical industry has taken on a leadership role in companies' patient engagement programs.
But to have a positive impact on patient engagement programs, Medical Affairs groups have to be effective at collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders.
To capture current practices on this topic, research and consulting leader Best Practices, LLC conducted a study that examines to what extent Medical Affairs collaborates with different internal and external stakeholders, and which internal and external groups are most important for effective patient engagement programs.
In addition, this new study looks at what patient engagement activities Medical Affairs groups are utilizing along the patient journey – that is from early stage of a disease to late stage. The end of the study includes verbatims from participants about their lessons learned and pitfalls.
The research study examines how and where Medical Affairs leads key aspects of patient engagement programs. For instance, the study presents data on Medical Affairs leaders' current perspective on what patient engagement activities are most important across the key areas of patient health outcomes, patient advocacy group, patient education and patient adherence. The study shows the involvement level of Medical Affairs groups across the different activities within these four key areas of patient engagement.
The report, “Medical Affairs' Role in Patient Engagement Activities,” presents reliable industry metrics on key aspects of patient engagement programs, including collaboration, activities, support, and involvement.
Topics addressed in the 88-page study include:
