The Blizzard Arena will open Oct. 7 with the Overwatch Contenders

Blizzard’s commitment to eSports, and especially to the Overwatch League, is overwhelming. The Californian company has announced the creation of the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles, which will host competitions around its games and will open on October 7.

The new area is located in Burbank Studios of the North American city, former scene of telelvision programs. That is why it will be well equipped with several sets, control rooms, facilities for players to practice … The intention is that activities behind their doors do not stop at a single moment of the year.

In addition to the tickets for the various competitions, much of the revenue from the stadium will come from an official Blizzard store whose items will vary according to the tournament that takes place – a market strategy similar to that used in soccer stadiums or basketball.

“We’re at a tipping point for esports and we look forward to helping usher in a new era of competition-based entertainment,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment, in a release. “As we open the doors of Blizzard Arena Los Angeles and welcome fans from around the world, we’re honored to bring the best in Blizzard esports to the same stage that some of the biggest names in entertainment have called home.”

The elimination phase of the Overwatch Contenders will be the first event to host the Blizzard Arena on 7 and 8 October. Shortly thereafter, on October 13 and during that weekend will take place the final of the summer championship of the Hearthstone Championship Tour, with a prize of $ 250,000.

It will also be in the California stadium where the final stages of the Heroes of the Storm Global Championship and the World of Warcraft Arena Championship will be seen in late October.

The latest event to be held this year at the Blizzard Arena, and probably the most important, is the beginning of the Overwatch League, the strong commitment of Anaheim developers to equate the structure of the eSports industry with traditional sports.
