With new software tools for internal collaboration rapidly being developed and deployed, the way people are communicating is changing. Most organization leaders were already in their thirties or beyond when digital tools like intranets, enterprise social and blogs were becoming available, and many of them are struggling to keep up with modern communications techniques. In fact, some are just giving up on digital communications. C5 Insight Managing Partner Geoff Ables made a list of seven simple tips for becoming a more digitally engaged executive, culled from experiences with leaders that the company has coached. The tips have recently become available as a blog post titled, “Digital Leadership: 7 Tips for Better Internal Communication.”
Ables said, “If you want to transform how your organization communicates, you’re going to have to make a long-term commitment to communicating differently. It’s just like when you want to transform your body, you’re going to have to make a long-term commitment to exercise.”
He continued, “All of the new digital communication options can be overwhelming and not all of them are a fit for every organization. Don’t try to tackle all of them at once. Pick one, get good at it, and then move on. A slow and steady pace will have you up to speed soon enough, but a fast pace may leave you frustrated and ready to give up.”
