All three levels and each of the 44 rooms of the vacant hotel will be utilized to cultivate the dynamic creativity of each artist, in celebration of the art culture of Downtown Los Angeles, and will feature over 40 artists including RETNA, RISK, Michael Torquato Denicola, Jeff Ho and many others.

CALIFORNIA LOCOS bring a linear diorama of LA subculture in their inside/outside conceptual presentation referencing early LA punk rock, graffiti, surf/skate, art and hotrod culture. Look for this to be a complete departure from their shows, with many special LOCOS guests.

Original LOCO Dave Tourjé, states: “Locos culture is all about the SoCal LA-based subcultures like graffiti, surf/skate, lowrider, hotrods, punk rock, etc. The NOVA LOCO art car is an extension of that.” Tourjé goes on to say that, “The idea is to merge all these Locos subcultures in an immersive, conceptual way, versus visual art only. How does that play out? For instance, Gary has new symbology works-stories of his Chinese immigrant families to LA. So, he will etch these on the walls and read his poetry. John is working on an animated projection referencing his Pinnacle Rock Concert legacy and mural making. Norton will be painting live to the music of the Mecolodiacs, with Joe Baiza (Saccharine Trust) and Ralph Gorodetsky (The Dissidents), who I will also jam with. Nano Nobrega will bring the LOCOS/Dusters skateboard collabs as well as news on the exciting new LOCOS collabs he is working on to stoke our international endeavors. We are stoked, and are bringing something different-more conceptual than physical.”

THE CALIFORNIA LOCOS will be activating the Ground Floor Stage Area 2 as well as a portion of the outside parking lot. Additional live performances by a variety of musical and spoken word performers will also take place in this area.

Curator’s Note: Artists were chosen from a range of sensibilities and career levels, established to emerge. They have been given complete creative freedom. The event will be an immersive experience within The Rendon building. HIDDEN ROOMS is a collaboration between all participating artists and is a celebration of the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. This is the first event establishing The Rendon as a hub of creativity and culture. A substantial proportion of the artists are active residents of the Arts District and all have personal connections to the area. – Cindy Schwarzstein

Brad grew up in a small town in northern Iowa. He studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married his wife one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children.
