ANN ARBOR, MI, April 30, 2018 — Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Douglas Allen Kahn, JD, with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Mr. Kahn celebrates many years' experience in his professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes he has accrued in his field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Kahn is a Paul G. Kauper Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan. Retiring from academia in 2017 after 53 years on campus, his years as a tax professor included teaching courses that included Tax Planning for Business Transactions, Taxation of Individual Income, Corporate Taxation, Partnership Tax and Legal Process. He also conducted an extensive amount of research, and authored and co-authored numerous books, including one on corporate taxation and one on taxation of transfers of wealth, as well as several textbooks on individual income tax and dozens of law review articles and pieces for professional tax journals. Passionate about his legal focus, Mr. Kahn spent years as a visiting professor at such institutions as Stanford University, Duke University and Fordham University, among several others. Prior to becoming an educator, he spent several years as an attorney within the civil and tax division with the U.S. Department of Justice and as an associate with Sachs and Jacobs in Washington, DC.
Earning a Bachelor of Arts at the University of North Carolina in 1955, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence, with honors, at George Washington University in 1958, Mr. Kahn was then admitted to the Bars of the District of Columbia and Michigan; the D.C., Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth and Ninth Circuits of the U.S. Court of Appeals; and the Supreme Court of the United States. He is a longtime member of the American Bar Association and Order of the Coif.
The recipient of an Emil Brown Foundation Prize, a George Washington University Distinguished Alumni Scholar, and a Norman Sugarman Award, Mr. Kahn has been cited in every edition of Who's Who in America since 1987 and every edition of Who's Who in the Midwest since 2000, as well as multiple editions of Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in American Education and Who's Who in American Law. Originally inspired by his older brother, who happened to be a leading tax lawyer, to pursue a career in law, Mr. Kahn's wife, who has since passed away, was also a tax lawyer. The proud father of two children, his son is a tax law professor and his daughter-in-law is a tax lawyer. Mr. Kahn is also the proud grandfather of three grandchildren.
