With close to 3 decades of professional experience in health information technology and education, Ms. Whitmer has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, Ms. Whitmer has demonstrated success not only as Professor for Florida Southwestern State College, but in every role she has held. Her impressive repertoire of roles have included Healthcare Coder, served as Director of FIRE (Find, Inspire, Recruit, Educate), former President of the Southwest Health Information Management Association and Inventor of My Healthcare Coder, a patented, specialized keyboard designed to make the coding process more efficient and accurate. Ms. Whitmer’s areas of expertise include but are not limited to: medical coding, billing, legal compliance, HIPAA guidelines, privacy rules for healthcare patient records, Electronic Health systems technology and security. Courses she covers are: Health Information Management and Supervision, Reimbursement Methodologies, ICD-10 CM/PCS coding, Anatomy and Physiology, HCPCS, CPT Coding.

For 2020 she is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and is being considered for the Empowered Woman of the Year Award. Also for 2020 Ms. Whitmer, was selected as Top Professor of the Year in Health Information Technology by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) and she will be honored at their Annual Awards Gala being held at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. For 2019, she received the VIP Award from POWER, and has been interviewed on CUTV News. For 2017 she was the recipient of the Triumph Award in Innovation from the AHIMA. Ms. Whitmer is a member of the American Health Information Management Association, as well as the Florida Health Information Management Association, where she serves as an advocate on the Legislative Committee, working to educate legislators on healthcare bills that affect the state of Florida.
Looking back, Ms. Whitmer attributes her success to her perseverance, mentors she has had along the way, and staying passionate in all her business endeavors.
