On January 8th, 2019 Northern California Law Group, PC, a law firm located in Chico, CA, filed a lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric on January 8, 2019 in Butte County for their role in the November 8, 2018 Camp Fire. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of families damaged by the fire, including homeowners, renters and businesses that seek general damages and special damages such as exemplary and punitive relief based on public safety concerns and PG&E’s history of responsibility for fires in the state and county.

The lawsuit is based on available evidence in the public record, including filings by PG&E indicating a power disruption occurred at one of their electrical towers at 6:30am on November 8, 2018 at the original point of the Camp Fire. PG&E further acknowledged that at 6:44am on November 8, 2018 a PG&E employee saw a vegetation fire directly underneath the same tower that had experienced the power disruption.  That vegetation fire would grow into the Camp Fire, the most deadly, destructive and costly fire in California history.

The lawsuit was filed in Butte County and makes a demand for a jury trial in Butte County. Attorney Joe Feist, President of Northern California Law Group, PC, reinforced the importance of filing the action in Butte County by saying, “The fire happened in Butte County, affected Butte County residents and people should be able to participate in the process and attend court hearings if they desire without having to drive to San Francisco to do so”.

The California Public Utilities Commission, in a statement released December 21, 2018, indicated they are considering varies options to address PG&E’s risk to public safety including replacing PG&E’s board of directors, reorganizing the company into smaller regional companies and reconstituting it as a publicly owned utility.

Brad grew up in a small town in northern Iowa. He studied chemistry in college, graduated, and married his wife one month later. They were then blessed with two baby boys within the first four years of marriage. Having babies gave their family a desire to return to the old paths – to nourish their family with traditional, homegrown foods; rid their home of toxic chemicals and petroleum products; and give their boys a chance to know a simple, sustainable way of life. They are currently building a homestead from scratch on two little acres in central Texas. There’s a lot to be done to become somewhat self-sufficient, but they are debt-free and get to spend their days living this simple, good life together with their five young children.
