An accomplished listee, Dr. Pérez Bustillo celebrates many years of experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all marquis who's who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

With more than 30 years of professional experience, Dr. Pérez Bustillo has been recognized as an associate professor emeritus of the College of New Rochelle since 2008. Prior to her retirement, she served as an associate professor with the school since 1974. Dr. Pérez Bustillo began her career as a student at Hunter College, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1965. She went on to study at Yale University from 1965 to 1967, and she completed a Master of Arts with Boston University in 1970. She later joined Rutgers University, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in 1977. She is a member of Sigma Delta Pi and Phi Sigma Iota. Toward the end of her academic career, she joined the One Spirit Interfaith Seminary as a postgraduate student from 2004 to 2006, and was ordained as an interfaith minister and a marriage officiant in the state of New York in 2006, and she performs weddings in both English and Spanish.

Born in Colombia, Dr. Pérez Bustillo credits her success to the influence of her father, who was a translator for the United Nations in French, Spanish and English, instilling in her a love of history and language and to her mother's sense of aesthetics. Returning to Colombia annually, she was able to remain connected to her culture and her family. These experiences were the inspiration for Dr. Pérez Bustillo's novel, “Back to El Dorado,” currently awaiting publication. In addition, her passion for learning and fascination with human rights issues, especially those dealing with female empowerment, have been a driving force for Dr. Pérez Bustillo, and she considers her ability to promote

the female image in education and literature to be particularly fulfilling. Instilling these values in future generations, she raised both of her daughters bilingually, and she has a granddaughter who is fluent in Spanish as well. In her free time, Dr. Pérez Bustillo enjoys meditation, salsa dance, traveling, Kirtan, Latina American art, and world music.
