Bergen-Passaic, NJ February 07, 2018 – A Suburban Revitalization Forum will be presented by Prism Capital Partners and ON3 on March 5 and 8 at 6:30 p.m. on the ON3 campus, in the auditorium of Building 200 on Metro Boulevard, 340 Kingsland Street, Nutley, N.J. The two-part series will feature nationally recognized speakers who will examine trends in urban planning and future growth as New Jerseyâ€™s suburbs evolve. Part one of the event will feature Dr. James W. Hughes, University Professor and former Dean of the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. On March 5, Hughes will discuss the economic challenges and demographic changes underway in New Jersey in a presentation titled, â€œWhere People are Choosing to Live Work and Play in New Jersey Now.â€�
Hughes is Director of the â€œRutgers Regional Reportâ€�, which has produced over 40 major economic, demographic, and real estate studies on New Jersey and the broader metropolitan region.
Part two of the series will feature Ellen Dunham-Jones, Professor and Director of the Urban Design Program at Georgia Tech. On March 8, Dunham-Jones will talk about solutions of mixed-use community cases in a presentation titled, â€œThe Big Design and Development Project of the Next 50 Years.â€� She will examine the importance, practicality and success of suburban retrofit and redevelopment as an opportunity to create more sustainable places to redirect growth into existing communities that could use a boost.
Dunham-Jones is a leading authority of suburban redevelopment and teaches Theories of Urban Design, Retrofitting Suburbia and Urban Design Studios. She has authored over 60 articles linking contemporary theory and practice. She is co-author with June Williamson of Retrofitting Suburbia: Urban Design Solutions for Redesigning Suburbs, (Wiley, 2009, 2011).
