Registration for the New Accredited Payments Risk Professional Program’s Inaugural Exam Reaches Capacity

NACHA sincerely appreciates the overwhelmingly positive response from the payments industry in recognizing the importance of a credential that highlights individuals with comprehensive risk management expertise.

HERNDON, Va. February 06, 2018

The Electronic Payments Association® today announced that the first-ever exam to be administered as part of the new Accredited Payments Risk Professional program has reached capacity with 300 registrants. The credential applies to risk management expertise across payment methods, including ACH, check, wire, debit, credit and prepaid cards, and emerging and alternative payments.

Launched in October 2017, the APRP is designed to allow payments industry participants to demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of risk management strategies, concepts, and mitigation techniques within the payments ecosystem. The inaugural exam will be administered in March.

Effectively managing payments risk is crucial for organizations that provide payment services, as well as businesses and other end users that use those services.�

Building on the success of the Accredited ACH Professional (AAP) program – of which more than 4,500 professionals currently hold the credential – NACHA has worked in conjunction with its 11 Regional Payments Association members and other financial services organizations in a cross-industry effort to develop the APRP program.

“We especially want to thank the RPAs for their support of the program. We appreciate their ongoing commitment to providing the necessary training to help prepare registrants to successfully complete the exam and become the ‘go-to’ experts in the critical and nuanced area of risk management across all payment types,� Larimer said.

To be awarded the APRP credential, individuals must pass a comprehensive exam administered by NACHA. The exam tests an individual’s knowledge of subjects including the fundamentals of payments risk management, payments systems, payments risk policy and governance, payments risk management systems and controls, physical and information security, and the regulatory environment.

To complement training and exam prep offered by the RPAs, APRP prep courses have been incorporated into the curriculum of The Payments Institute (TPI), which will take place July 22-25 in Atlanta. TPI is a university-style program that provides intensive course work aimed at helping professionals achieve a higher understanding of payment systems. Registration is available here.

To help interested professionals prepare for the July 2019 exam, education across all payment types will be available at PAYMENTS 2018, which will be held April 29-May 2 in San Diego, California. Programming includes a content-rich Risk and Compliance track. Registration is now open.
